Professor Mark Cleary, Vice Chancellor, University of Bradford

Mark took his undergraduate and postgraduate degrees at Jesus College, Cambridge in Geography. From 1980-1989 he was a Lecturer at Exeter University before taking up a post in Brunei (1989-1992) where he began research on development issues in Borneo with a particular interest in tropical deforestation. After teaching at the University of Waikato, New Zealand (1992-1994) he joined the University of Plymouth in 1994 becoming Professor of Human Geography (1999), Dean of the Faculty of Social Science and Business (2003-2004) and Deputy Vice Chancellor.

Mark was appointed as Vice Chancellor at the University of Bradford in June 2007. As Chief Executive he has responsibility for the strategic development of the University and its links to business, the city and the region. With a turnover in excess of £100m and continuing long-term investment plans the University is focussed on strengthening its national and international standing. Employer engagement and the University's role as an Ecoversity are major strategic priorities.
